No to $45 Billion in additional weapons to Israel
Just over a year ago, Israel ended one of its most intense military assaults on the people of Gaza. Using weapons funded by US taxpayers, the Israeli military killed 2,215 Palestinians in a 51-day assault on Gaza, including 535 children. The damage to human life, homes, agricultural fields, hospitals, schools, water systems and sanitation infrastructure was immense. Now, over a year later, the disaster continues, and Israel blocks much of the aid and supplies needed to rebuild Gaza.
In the meantime, the Israeli government and many of its supporters tried everything they could to defeat President Obama’s nuclear deal with Iran. Fortunately, they failed and peace and diplomacy won.
But now Congress and the Obama administration plan to reward Israel by authorizing the transfer of “massive ordnance penetrators” and other advanced weaponry. And the U.S. is prepared to sign a new 10-year deal to give Israel – one of the largest weapons exporters in the world – as much as $45 billion more in U.S. taxpayer-funded weapons. Israel routinely uses these weapons to injure and kill Palestinian civilians and destroy their homes, agricultural fields, and infrastructure, in violation of U.S. law.
Grassroots International is joining a campaign along with allies such as the US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation, Jewish Voice for Peace, Roots Action, Code Pink, American Muslims for Palestine, Defense for Children International-Palestine, and more to stand up against this injustice, and to let Obama know we oppose our tax dollars being used to enable more violence.
