Dear Friend,

The movement for agrarian reform in Brazil is entering a new phase, and Grassroots International needs your support to push it forward.

Since 1998, Grassroots International has accompanied the process of land reform and reclamation in Brazil with our partner organizations. During that time, more than 350,000 families have claimed more than 17 million acres of land, and moved from landlessness and hunger to vibrant settlements with schools, health care and sustainable agricultural production.

At this critical and historic moment, we ask for your special solidarity for Grassroots International’s initiative to support Popular Agrarian Reform in Brazil, with our partner the MST (Landless Workers Movement) during their 30th anniversary congress. Approximately 15,000 small farmers, landless workers and agrarian reform leaders will gather next month to plot the course ahead for the next generation of resistance and transformation.

João Pedro Stédile, a founder of the MST, explains the importance of the popular agrarian reform and how the gathering will energize the movement: “Our conception of agrarian reform is reform that meets the needs of the landless poor. It’s popular because it serves the interest of the Brazilian people as a whole.”

Please help Grassroots International raise $5,000 by January 31 in order to support peasant participation and leadership for land rights, promote agrarian reform efforts and advance popular resistance. Your donation today will play a critical role in this next phase of agrarian reform in Brazil. Thank you.

In solidarity,

Nikhil Aziz
Executive Director
